The Instituto Brasileiro do Crisotila and the School of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (USP) through the Discipline of Pneumology, along with UNIFESP, UNICAMP and IPT, and national and international institutions, began the research project "Environmental exposure to asbestos: evaluation of risk and effect on human health".

The governor of the State of Pará, Ana Júlia Carepa (PT) vetoed, as unconstitutional, Bill No. 93/2005, which prohibited the manufacture and set restrictions for the use and sale of asbestos in Pará.The Governor's message containing the veto on the Bill was published in the Government Gazette of the State of Pará, on January 08.

STJ suspends Regulation n? 1,851 issued by the Ministry of Health - 20/12/2006

The Higher Court of Justice (Superior Tribunal de Justiça) granted a preliminary order, on December 12, in an injunction requested by manufacturers of fibercement products containing chrysotile asbestos. The injunction asks for the suspension of Regulation No. 1851 issued by the Ministry of Health, on August 9, 2006.
